"The Light" is the second in a new series of engravings, Body Language -- celebrating the beauty, resilience and form of the human body and soul. "If everything around seems dark, look again. You may be the light." -Rumi. Certainly a wonderful gift for a loved one, but also a striking daily reminder for oneself. Words to glance at every day that can change perspective and shift how powerfully and lovingly we can show up in the world.

Two sizes of fine art prints are available of the 8×10” hand-engraved original — 8×10” and 16×20”, both available with or without Rumi’s writing. Archival inks on Smooth Matte fine art paper produce rich velvety blacks and a wide range of tones to capture every detail of the original engraving. Prints have .25" white borders to allow for full viewing of the artwork when framed.

This style of hand-illustrated engraving has been around since the 1800s. A panel of Masonite is covered with white clay and then a thin layer of black India ink on top. Using a small Xacto blade and a fiberglass brush, I carve through the black ink line by line, exposing variable degrees of the white clay beneath. Visit my Instagram account to see making-of video.
